The Fleming
Library, one of the first buildings on the campus, had been used for multiple
functions over time. With the relocation
of the Library at another location on campus, this building, which is located
right at the entry of the campus, was seen as a prime spot to house key
administrative personnel. The design
concept was to reinforce the history and heritage of the campus while
acknowledging and artfully integrating a modern vision for the campus. The existing materials, such as brick, steel
trusses and exposed wood roof structure are showcased in the inherent design of
the building. New materials such as stark white drywall, contrasting cmu, wood
and glass, symbolic of the modern world are juxtaposed against the existing,
emphasizing the sharp contrast and the harmonious co-existence of the old and
the new. Completed while at Orcutt | Winslow.
